Inverness Civic Trust Program for Season 2017-18.
Please note that the programme requires to be finally confirmed. Changes have already had to be made, and may already require to be made due to circumstances totally out with our control. In the main this relates to availability of speakers and access to facilities and buildings.
As you are aware the Trust Committee meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from September through to June inclusive.
Meetings are held at the Annex of the Glenmoriston Hotel, Ness Bank, Inverness.
Committee Meetings 2017-18: September 14th, October 12th, November 9th, December 7th (N.B. 1st Thursday to allow members’ meeting to be held on 14th – not too near Christmas) January 11th, February 8th, March 8th, April 12th, May 10th, June 14th.
Members’ meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month but occasionally may be held on a different evening to accommodate speakers and/or opening times of facilities.
Thursday 21st September – Ask The Architect.
A panel consisting of our very own Chair James Maxwell accompanied by Chris Gratton and Paul MacDonald will be open to any question you can put to them. Be it on design, regulations, planning, or challenges you may have experienced personally – the more challenging the better!
There will be a presentation on Dornoch Projects which are the Sheriff Courthouse, Links House Hotel and the new Glensheil Annex.
Wednesday 18th October – Visit to the Archive Centre, Inverness.
A guided, behind the scenes tour, including one of the strongrooms and display of archive material relating to the history of Inverness. Please note the visit is on the third WEDNESDAY, not Thursday. This is to accommodate the Archive Centre staff who work each Wednesday as a matter of course. The time will be earlier at 6pm unless advised beforehand.
Thursday 23rd November (4th Thursday) – The Town House ‘Alight’ – Steven Laing.
For anyone who missed our previous talk and presentation from Steven Laing, MD of Laing Masonry who have restored our Town House, you missed one of the best and most interesting talks we have ever had. His knowledge of the trade was first class and the story of the monumental job of practically rebuilding the Town House was jaw-dropping.
As November arrives there are plans to unveil the building in all its glory and switch on new lighting on Sunday the 16th. Mr Laing will be giving us a guided tour and explanation of the work done in the evening of Thursday 23rd (the 4th Thursday of the month) as the lights will be on and we will be able to see more clearly. Time TBC but expected early evening and it’s suggested that we park at the Hotel as usual and walk the 5 minutes to the Town House.
Thursday 14th December (2nd Thursday) – Presentation by Architecture Technician Students, UHI.
This is the presentation evening where the teams of students will present their revised projects on affordable housing. Again the date has been changed to the SECOND Thursday rather than the THIRD Thursday as we do not want to have the members’ meeting too near Christmas for obvious reasons.
Thursday 18th January – Presentation ‘Inverness as a Brand’.
A no-doubt inspiring talk from local ambassador Mr Willie Cameron regarding Inverness and is it a ‘Brand’? How and/or should we adapt to attracting more settlers and tourists to Inverness?
Thursday 15th February – An Evening with the Inverness City Heritage Trust.
A shared evening with the City Heritage Trust. The Heritage Trust has been invited to choose the topic/theme, but it is hoped that there will be time for shared discussion on our respective roles. Are we all singing from the same Hymn Sheet and are we stronger acting together or individually?
Thursday 15th March – Presentation on the new Justice Centre, Inverness.
The Project Manager, Fergus Taylor has agreed to give a presentation on this exciting new architectural design. Best behaviour!
Thursday 19th April – AGM
Following the business there will be the Awards Presentation to the winning team of students, UHI.
